Sunlight Holds Key To Killing Breast Cancer

You have been told that sunlight causes cancer. Now they say that the Vitamin D from sunlight is vital to life and that it is the free radicals from sun lotions and sunscreen that cause cancer. I say, sunshine in moderation – which means enjoy the sun but be careful not to burn. I use nature’s offering to skin health: aloe vera – with no additives.

A new study finds vitamin D — the ‘sunlight vitamin’ — strikes to the very heart of breast cancer malignancy.

Breast cancer is not what most people think. Beneath the intimidating statistics that make it seem like a juggernaut of inevitability or a time bomb of genetic determinism ready to go off in the asymptomatic breasts of millions of women, a far more complex conversation is occurring among clinicians and researchers concerning the true nature and causes of cancer, and why conventional therapies fail to turn the tide against the second highest cause of death in the Western world.  To fully appreciate this, one must go to the first hand research itself.

For instance, a new study published in The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology identifies [1] an overlooked root cause of breast cancer (cancer stem cells), as well as a natural intervention that has yet to be incorporated into the conventional standard of cancer care.

Titled, “Vitamin D compounds reduce mammosphere formation and decrease expression of putative stem cell markers in breast cancer,” the new study brings to the forefront the role of breast cancer stem cells (BSCs) in breast tumor formation and their progression towards malignancy and treatment resistance. For many decades it was assumed that cancer results from DNA-damaged cells succumbing to fundamentally chaotic processes, ‘going rogue’ and reproducing clonally (making identical copies of one another), without an acknowledgment of the different types of cells that comprise tumors. The most salient difference is between the cancer stem cells (sometimes referred to as ‘mother’ cells) which are capable of theoretically infinite self-renewal and produce all the differentiated ‘daughter’ cells in a tumor colony, which themselves are not capable of living indefinitely. It is actually the existence of the much smaller number of cancer stem cells which causes cancer recurrence, as they are not only resistant to conventional chemotherapy and radiation, but their numbers can actually be increased (enriched) by these two ‘therapies.’ Therefore, any cancer therapy that ignores the cancer stem cell subpopulation in favor of killing the non-tumorigenic daughter cells in order to ‘debulk’ the tumor (i.e. shrink it), will not result in destroying the root of the cancer. To the contrary, it can generate the illusion of ‘remission’ while in fact making the remaining tumor colony far more malignant, setting up the conditions for aggressive recurrence years later…

Evidence That the Human Body is a Projection of Consciousness

battiti d'amore

Deepak Chopra told a fascinating story in his book, How to Know God. A friend of his had injured his foot while working out in a gym. The pain in his foot increased over the next few days, and he found it increasingly difficult to walk. Upon medical examination it was found that he had a common ailment known as planar fasciitis – the connective tissue between the heel and the front of the foot had been stretched or torn. His friend decided not to have surgery and instead to tough it out, but in time he found it so painful and difficult to walk that in desperation he sought out a Chinese healer. This Chinese man seemed to be quite ordinary. He gave no indication of being mystical or spiritual, or in any way gifted in healing. But what happened next turns medical science on its head. Chopra’s friend explained:

“After gently feeling my foot, he stood up and made a few signs in the air behind my spine. He never actually touched me, and when I asked what he was doing, he simply said he was turning some switches in my energy field. He did this for a minute or so and then asked me to stand up. I did, and there was no sensation of pain, not the slightest. You have to remember that I had limped in, barely able to walk…

“In complete amazement I asked him what he had done. He told me that the body was an image projected by the mind, and in a state of health the mind keeps this image intact and balanced. However, injury and pain can cause us to withdraw our attention from the affected spot. In that case, the body image starts to deteriorate; its energy patterns become impaired, unhealthy. So the healer restores the correct pattern – this is done instantly, on the spot – after which the patient’s own mind takes responsibility for maintaining it that way.” (pp 221-222)

Lissa Rankin, MD is an OB/GYN physician, author, keynote speaker, consultant to health care visionaries, professional artist, and founder of the women’s health and wellness community OwningPink.com. Discouraged by the broken, patriarchal health care system, she left her medical practice in 2007 only to realize that you can quit your job, but you can’t quit your calling. This epiphany launched her on a journey of discovery that led her to become a leader in the field of mind/body medicine, which she blogs about at OwningPink.com and is writing about in her third book Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself (Hay House, 2013).

She teaches both patients and health care professionals how to make the body ripe for miracles by healing the mind and being healthy in all aspects of life, not just by promoting healthy behaviors like good nutrition, exercise, and adequate sleep, but by encouraging health and authenticity in relationships, work, creative expression, spirituality, sexuality, finances, and living environment. She is leading a revolution to feminize how health care is received and delivered by encouraging collaboration, fostering self-healing, reconnecting health care and spirituality, empowering patients to tap into the mind’s power to heal the body, and encouraging women not to settle for being merely well, but to strive for living vital, joyful, authentic lives full of "mojo."

When not spreading the word, she chills out, paints, does yoga, and hikes in Marin County, CA with her husband and daughter.

Why Cannabis Is the Future of Medicine

Posted: September 2nd, 2014 | Author: | Filed under: Cannabis, Greens, Healing, Health, Speaking out | No Comments »

food . salad . greens

The future of medicine rests on the the fundamental right we all have to use things that spring from the Earth naturally as healing agents. Why should cannabis, used for at least 10000 years by humankind to alleviate suffering, be excluded from this inexorable mandate?

The politics of cannabis are exceedingly complex, and yet the truth is simple: this freely growing plant heals the human body – not to mention provides food, fuel, clothing and shelter, if only we will let it perform its birthright. In a previous article, we investigated the strange fact that the human body is in many ways pre-designed, or as it were, pre-loaded with a receptiveness to cannabis’ active compounds — cannabinoids — thanks to its well documented endocannabinoid system.

The notion that marijuana has no ‘medicinal benefits’ is preposterous, actually. Since time immemorial it has been used as a panacea (‘cure-all’). In fact, as far back as 2727 B.C., cannabis was recorded in the Chinese pharmacopoeia as an effective medicine, and evidence for its use as a food, textile and presumably as a healing agent stretch back even further, to 12 BC.

But the medical-industrial complex in the U.S. does not want you to use these freely growing compounds. They threaten its very business model and existence. Which is why it synergizes so naturally with the burgeoning privatized prison sector, which now has the dubious title of having the highest incarceration rate in the world. The statistics don’t lie:

“far surpassing any other nation. For every 100,000 Americans, 743 citizens sit behind bars. Presently, the prison population in America consists of more than six million people, a number exceeding the amount of prisoners held in the gulags of the former Soviet Union at any point in its history.”

Doctors fear cancer cure

Posted: April 4th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Cancer, Disease, Food, Healing, Health, Laetrile | No Comments »

I once knew a doctor, an oncologist, a professor and a researcher. We were walking on the beach in San Francisco and I asked him to tell me about his cancer research.

“Wonderful!” I said, “You will find it!”

How did I know that, he asked me.

“Because it’s laetrile,” I said.

He stopped in midstride and stared into the sky. He was speechless for several minutes.  Then, his eyes still wide, he said slowly, ‘They’ll destroy me!’ … Read more…

Indulge yourself

Posted: November 5th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Cheese, Food, Healing, Health, Raw foods | No Comments »

Feeling deprived, sets up a craving for “comfort foods” that ultimately make you feel even more unhealthy and uncomfortable.  So rather than deprive yourself of unhealthy foods, I recommend indulging in healthy foods.

Hints that have helped me avoid the deprivation trap.

1) The more flavors I put in my salads and smoothies — sweet, salty, sour, bitter, pungent (hot, spicy) — the more satisfying my food is and the less I crave things that are not good for me. (See Miracle foods made easy.)

2) If I find myself craving something that isn’t good for me (chocolate, corn chips, cheese or anything else), I intentionally overdose on it. I eat as much of it as I possibly can at one sitting. Once I’ve had a stomach ache from too much, it turns me off instead of on. Do not try this if you are diabetic.

3) Yet craving indicates things I legitimately need, so I analyze what is attractive about the foods I crave. White sugar by the spoonful is not interesting, flour by itself is not interesting, so that is not what I want. What is interesting in a candy bar or a cookie or a cake is the fruit or the nuts or the raw cacao or vanilla… so I make a dish of the good items minus the sugar. (See Staying on good food.) Chips are interesting due to the crunch, the oil & salt, so I learned to use a high quality olive oil generously on my salad. With a dehydrator I can make vegetable chips with flax that rival or trump commercial chips… or just eat a carrot! I make a simple sunflower seed cheese and it satisfies me as much or more than a cheese from the deli counter. (See Love cheese — but can’t digest it?)

I use plenty of my favorite seasonings and spices…

Never, never, never, ever allow yourself to feel deprived. Avoid bad foods by indulging in the flavors and textures you love safely, by choosing healthy alternatives.

Staying on good food

How do you do it? my friends ask. How do you avoid sugar?

My secret is to eat as much fresh, ripe, raw, organic fruit in the morning as I want, until my sweet tooth is fully satisfied, so I won’t fall prey to craving sweets. If I do later “need” a sweet, I will make a mixture of seeds or nuts or seed or nut butter plus dates, raw organic cacao or vanilla or cinnamon… or I might simply have an apple.

The important thing, I think, is to make sure your body has the nutrients it needs, so I avoid anything devoid of nutrients: white flour, white sugar, white salt.

Green smoothies are a wonderful way to satisfy the sweet tooth, get digestive enzymes and also feed your body what it needs — fresh, raw fruit and lots of vital nutrients from greens. Just whiz fruit, water, kale, parsley or spinach plus maybe a little fresh ginger. Your delicious drink tastes like fruit but you have just ingested a healthy dose of greens.

I also make sure to eat a huge, wonderful salad daily with lots of dark colors: green, red, blue, yellow. Lately I’ve been making sure I have something fermented in my salad too… either seed cheese or homemade sauerkraut, to provide extra digestive enzymes.

When I feel a need for something more complicated, I make raw bread from buckwheat, flax seeds, carrot & other veggies plus herbs & fennel seed. I form it into little rounds about 5 or 6″ across. Then, anything I put on it — olives, tomato, pesto, seed cheese — tastes good enough to me, that I call it pizza!

A guest once said that my raw pizza was the best pizza she had ever eaten!
